So you have booked the venue, and now you need to find a photographer. But with so many wedding photographers out there who do you choose? It can be massively overwhelming with so many photographers to choose from. However, I think a good place to start is to decide on what style of wedding photography would really suit you.

For me, I think candid, documentary photography is the style to go for. I aim to tell the story of one of the most important days of your lives. You won’t find me setting up any shots or re-creating any images. I don’t pose any shots either so if you don’t like the idea of standing around for hours on end for posed photo’s or being told what to do by a bossy, shouty photographer, then please read on.

“Thank you so much for capturing our special day with no stress or even knowing you were taking photos!”

MY STYLE OF PHOTOGRAPHY IS ABOUT DOCUMENTING YOUR DAY AS IT HAPPENS

My style is fun, relaxed and natural, nothing is staged, and nothing is posed. I don’t set up any shots or get you into awkward poses. This is perfect if you’re a little camera shy or self-conscious, allowing you to relax and enjoy your day.

SO WHY CHOOSE ME?

MY STYLE IS PERFECT IF YOUR A LITTLE CAMERA SHY OR SELF CONSCIOUS

A lot of people become a bit camera shy or self-conscious in front of a camera, and It’s totally natural to feel like this. So many of us have our insecurities, and it can be scary to think we’re going to be photographed all day. However, that’s where another benefit of my style appears. I won’t be asking you to pose, or repeat things, or look at the camera – my goal is to capture moments. At the same time, you’re totally unaware they’re doing so.

I CAPTURE MOMENTS THAT YOU DIDN’T EVEN KNOW HAD HAPPENED

Moments come and go, and I’m always on the lookout for those special moments you didn’t even know had happened. For instance, I will capture the moment your Uncle has a little doze after drinking one too many glasses of champagne. The time your friend splits his trousers on the dancefloor. The moment your niece decides she’s bored during the ceremony. Images like these, some of which you didn’t even witness yourself on the wedding day. You can literally look at your wedding images, and see things you didn’t even know had taken place.

I CAPTURE RAW EMOTIONS

This is why I love shooting weddings, capturing a whole myriad of emotions throughout the day and, do you know what? These moments of raw emotion only happen once and can’t be staged, they can’t be re-created or set up; that’s not the way emotion works. So, if you want these to be captured, you need to hire someone with the documentary skills to get them.

THERE IS NO IN YOUR FACE, SHOUTY, BOSSY PHOTOGRAPHER TRYING TO RUN THE DAY

And that’s an excellent thing! Unlike a traditional wedding photographer who will take you away for hours, set up photographs and ask you to do this and that. A lot of documentary wedding photographers stay in the background looking for those moments that will not happen again. I sometimes get asked ‘how do you know the couple’?. Guests sometimes think that the photographers are actually guests. This is because the photographer hasn’t been controlling the day, running around with huge cameras and lenses, barking orders, or telling people what to do. But instead blending in with the crowd, almost-invisibly capturing moments without people being aware.

YOU CAN RELAX AND JUST ENJOY
‘YOUR’ WEDDING DAY

There are so many things to be thinking about during your wedding; I don’t want photography to be one of them. When you hire a photographer who excels at documentary wedding photography. You can relax and enjoy your day, safe in the knowledge that all those critical moments are being captured. You may still want a few bride and groom portraits and family group shots. Again I won’t be taking you away from your guests for hours like traditional photographers sometimes do.

It’s your wedding, not a photoshoot. So go and have the time of your lives, rather than worry about posing in front of the camera all day!

YOU GET THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

Why? Because I still love to capture some stunning portraits of you both, if you still want them, and these will stand out from a traditional photographer’s style. These are still not posed and I am more than happy to do a few group shots too, again only if you want them. The group shots are also done really relaxed, you find me forming you and your guests into cheesy heart shapes etc…. that’s just not me!
